Expert OS/Networking Developer for Finding and Generating IP Traffic Leaks

We are testing consumer VPN products across Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and Linux. The applications aim to guarantee a user’s privacy and security by sending IP traffic via a VPN tunnel. We want you to attempt to make VPN applications leak! Your task will be to try to find situations where applications send IP traffic directly over the internet as opposed to the VPN tunnel. You may focus on any number of the supported OSes within your area of expertise - a single OS is perfectly acceptable. Project phases - We will be awarding the project to multiple bidders. - We will give you a prioritized list of target applications to focus on. - We will give you a concrete definition of a leak. - Stage 1: 40 hours of work spread over no more than 2 weeks. - if you’ve managed to generate a leak then we will likely seek a longer term arrangement (see stage 2); - if you haven’t managed to generate a leak but your record of investigation shows sufficient depth of knowledge in the field then we will likely seek a longer term arrangement (see stage 2). - Stage 2: Continued investigation working on 1 month contracts until you have exhausted all possible avenues of investigation. New applications, features and broader definitions of a leak may be given to expand the area of investigation. - Stage 3: Candidates who demonstrate a good level of expertise in the area would be welcome to join us on more complex, longer term projects in this field. For example - Experience leak testing, network security testing etc.. - Knowledge of OSes, network stacks, networking protocols. - Experience working with VPNs. - Knowledge of programming languages and level of experience. - Which OSes you would be prepared to tackle. - Your time zone and working hours. - When you’d be available to start.
