Forehead Acne Causes
The forehead belongs to the T-zone area encompassing the nose and chin as well. It is the oiliest part of the face and thus, most susceptible. Acne develops as a result of the clogging of the hair follicles leading to inflammation and the appearance of red or pus-filled pimples on your skin. Home treatment usually takes six weeks. Anything beyond that requires medical attention.
Factors that affect the forehead more than any other part of the skin are as follows
1. Cosmetics
Users of makeup are advised to wash and rinse their faces before going to sleep at night. The residue that remains at the end of the day must be removed to avoid the risk of clogging the skin pores. The pores expand when you are asleep due to a rise in temperatures increasing the possibility of foreign particles entering the skin.
2. Shampoos
Hair shampoos containing Sodium Laureth Sulfate encourage the spread of acne. This is caused by the exposure of the forehead skin when the hair is being washed with shampoo.
3. Sleeping position
Due to the ever present germs and bacteria in the environment, it has been proved that sleeping on one side of your face can cause acne because of the continuous rubbing of the skin on the pillow.
4. Unclean hair and skin
As the forehead is located on relatively oily skin, you need to wash it at least twice daily. Pay attention to the hairline as well and practice exfoliation. This reduces the risk of spreading acne around the region of the forehead.
5. Headgear
For those who are fond of wearing headgear like hats and helmets, you need to pay particular attention to your forehead because of the grease and dirt that accumulates on it due to the friction caused. If worn tightly, the skin does not have enough space to breath. These two factors contribute to the development of acne and special care should be taken to cleanse the affected areas through the day and at bedtime.
6. Liver disease
Inadequate consumption of water can impair the performance of the liver. This causes retention of toxins in the body and acne breaks out. The digestive system is also affected by overeating junk food that produces too many toxins which the liver cannot handle. Due to this, some of them end up on the skin. This is yet another cause of acne.
7. Hair products
Hair products tend to come into contact with the skin on your forehead. Items such as hair spray, smoothing serums and styling gels can accumulate on your forehead, blocking the skin pores and causing acne.
8. Excessive exfoliation
Exfoliating with harsh products while doing a facial can lead to acne. The oil glands can increase secretion creating the ideal environment for propionibacterium acnes to thrive.
Caution needs to be exercised when handling forehead skin as it is more sensitive than other areas of the face. Knowing the causes helps us determine the best methods of prevention as we lead our lives.
