The main idea for this bid is to make a database that can run on both Windows and Linux, as a client AND as a server.
The server will contain all the records. The client side will only contain the records that have been entered by the user.
The database will be able to store publication records as well as comments. (For Books and Journals)
These are the criterias.
1) Have a web site that can run a database (on Linux and Windows) (I am open to any technologies. Please tell me what you will use in your bid.)
2) Have a registration page on the web site.
3) People who are registered can enter records into the database.
4) People who pay a subscription will also have a control pannel where they can view all their entries and edit them online.
5) People will also be able to download a client version of the database so that they can enter records when they are not on the internet. (There will be a fee for this.) (Must be able to run on Windows and Linux as well)
6) The client side will be able to update the server when online. (But NOT vice versa)
7) It will also be able to export results to "bibtex", therefore a good understanding of LaTex is preffered. (It will be easy for you to learn if you don't know already.)
What I would like is for people to be able to login using a username and password, and then enter information on a journal or book they have read as well as some comments. I would like to build community for researchers.
People who pay a subscription will also have a control pannel to view all their entries and export to bibtex. (People who don't won't have this facility, however they will still be able to enter records. They will have to register beforehand though.)
Some of the fields to include in the database are:
- Title
- First name
- Initial
- Last name
- Other authors
- Publisher
- Publication date
- Publication type (conference paper, journal, book, in book)
- Volume
- Number
- Pages
- Date enetered
- Username
- comments (comment title, location)
- score
- and a few other obvious ones
Basically the database will be very simple.
The web ste will have to be able to deal with registrations and subscriptions.
If you have any questions please ask!
