I need to rename a file in a CVS repository located on SourceForge, while maintaing the old filename's history in the new name. I did this back in April but have since forgotten how and have spent all night researching it but to no avail.
The standard hacks for renaming files as mentioned in the CVS FAQ WILL NOT WORK here. You cannot just cvs remove file1; cvs add file2!! Filename2 must appear as though it has ALWAYS BEEN the name of the file...and Filename1 should NOT appear in the Attic of the CVS repository.
Numerous examples of what I need can be found at [login to view URL]
pay attention to [login to view URL] (used to be called [login to view URL]), [login to view URL], and config.inc. These three files have been renamed SUCCESSFULLY. [login to view URL] has NOT been renamed successfully (notice v1.1).
Win this bid and you will be provided with EVERY THING you need to test out your work and show me the results. I will provide you a 1) shell account, 2) test CVS account, 3) numerous files to rename.
I do NOT have access to the CVS project files on SourceForge, thus any thing such as "cp $CVSROOT/file,v" will NOT be accepted, unless you can show me that I can, infact, edit these files with a basic sourceforge account.
I know this can work, help me remember.
## Deliverables
1) Successful renaming of files on my CVS server with revision history intact in new filename (e.g. *no* revision history splits between two files) that mirrors the renaming of file [login to view URL] at [login to view URL]
2) Instructions detailing how the above was accomplished so that I can duplicate the process on my own.
3) Solution MUST NOT be taken from the CVS FAQ section on renaminng. In other words, the following will NOT be accepted:
a) $ cd $CVSROOT/module
$ mv old,v new,v
or its "cp" version
b) $ mv old new
$ cvs remove old
$ cvs add new
$ cvs commit -m "Renamed old to new" old new
a) will not work because I do not ahve access to $CVSROOT on SourceForge
b) WILL NOT WORK as desired, because the revision history will be split between files old and new
## Platform
linux, CVS repository syntax
## Deadline information
This is highly priced for FAST results. A much lower-priced, longer-term bid will be posted on Monday (10/28) should this one fall through.
