Patent Analysis

The application has to accomplish the foll. tasks: 1. Take the name of a company which may have a patent issued as an input parameter 2. Send a web request to the US Patent Office site (USPTO) 3. Extract information about the patents issued to the company starting now and going back over a certain period of years (say past 5 years). 4. For each patent, find all the referenced or cited patents that were issued to the same company 5. If there are no referenced or cited patents by the same company for a patent, then search ends for that patent 6. If there is one or more referenced or cited patents for a patent, then application will get details for those patents from the USPTO site 7. For each referenced or cited patent, application will get list of referenced or cited patents, if any, and extract the ones that were issued to the same company 8. This process continues until there are no more referenced or cited patents for each patent for the company or when search goes down to 8 levels beyond the original patent, whichever happens earlier. 9. At the end of the search, application will generate a tree view with the current patent on top and referenced patents as sibling nodes and so on 10. Based on this hierarchy of nodes for each patent, the application will prepare a report showing the contribution of past patents of the company to current patents.
