I need help customizing an existing Wordpress theme

I have an existing website designed with Wordpress. I am using a Studiopress Theme designed with Genesis framework. If you are not familiar please Google. It's a fairly simple theme though. It has specific widgetized areas. I have a Dynamic Content Gallery widget in the featured top which I would like to keep. There is a sidebar that I am happy with. Under the 'featured top' section are 2 widget areas...featured bottom left and featured bottom right. I want to remove these widget areas and just have this bottom section display the entire contents (video, images, text etc) of whatever post is in the designated category.
