(50 marks) Examine the following four social networking sites:- **Facebook Twitter MySpace Google Plus+** * What are the revenue model(s) used by each of these sites? (20 marks) * Select **two** of the above four sites, and perform a SWOT analysis for each of them. (20 marks) * Select **one** of the above two sites, and analyse its prospects in the near term (up to 3 years) and in the medium-to-longer term (over 3 years). (10 marks) Notes: ? In analysing Google Plus, you may rely on what people have written about it on the Web, rather than on your own experience with it (as invitations to join may be very difficult to obtain at present !). ? If it appears that a particular site (or service) does not use any method of collecting revenues, you should ask yourself, "Why does the owner of this site/service offer it?" The textbook's comment about the value of the magazine *Slade* to its owner Microsoft (on p. 138 of the 8th edition, p. 135 of the 9th edition) points to the sort of motive that the site owner may have. In the case(s) you are analysing, the motive(s) may be quite similar, but not necessarily identical, to this. 1. **Possible New Uses of an Existing Social Networking Site**. (20 marks) Select **one** of the above four sites. Briefly discuss how that site might be used for **two** of the following three forms of eCommerce: o eRetail (10 marks) o eEducation (10 marks) o eGovernment (10 marks) 1. **Customer-Centric Design of eCommerce Websites**. (30 Marks) In Chapter 3 (p. 156 of 8th edition, p. 149 of 9th edition), the textbook lists a number of guidelines that are consistent with a "customer-centric" website design. * Find **three** eCommerce websites. One should illustrate good adherence to these guidelines, in an overall sense. The second should illustrate moderate adherence, and the last, poor adherence. * Be sure to give accurate URLs (so they can be checked). * For each site, provide explanations and examples to support your assessment that, overall, the site is good, moderate or poor in terms of customer-centric design. Note that you may assess a site as "good" overall, for example, even though it has **some** features that are in your opinion only "moderate" or even "poor", but you must provide justifications for doing so. | | ** ** |
