The objective is to perform and report a user evaluation of an electronic, interactive product or service. The focus for your evaluation is your choice. It could be a mobile phone, a single app, a website, a digital library, a digital television service, an e-book reader, a digital camera... the list is endless. It could even be an online university service.
The kind of evaluation you will be performing is a ‘formative’ evaluation. That is to say, you are interested in discovering ways in which the system could be improved from the perspective of its use. The issues you investigate should be any aspect of user experience that is relevant to the product. It could be how well it helps people achieve their goals, how easily and quickly it can be used, how easy it is to learn, the likelihood of errors, how enjoyable it is to use etc.
You will need to design a procedure for your evaluation. This will include your users performing one or more representative tasks with the product and you recording data that address your evaluation aims. Test two users. You must also complete a University School of Engineering and Information Sciences Research Consent (Form C) and a Declaration Form and Ethical Approval Request (Form D). These can be found in the ‘Useful Forms’ section of the University, School of EIS - Ethics & Research Webpage . You must have your consent form approved by your tutor before you start and have them sign your form D.
