I would like to if someone can help me in structural and force analysis of a dome pergola. The material to be used is masonry(bricks).
Some of the key points to be followed are as below-
1)The hoop stresses can be resisted by thin steel bars (or rings) imbedded horizontally in the mortar beds between the brick courses. You need to get the resultant tension force for the course and check the safety of the ring/hoop bar(s).
2)The compressive stress at any (critical) point can be resolved into a vertical (compressive) stress and a horizontal shearing stress. The resolution is needed because I understand that you are placing the bricks on horizontal (not inclined) beds. Then, you can check the safety of the stresses according to the standard code
