We have this project in order to find an illustrator who creates the characters and requested scene in a way that we feel best fits an upcoming children book.
The specific scene to be illustrated is based on the following text from the story:
So Wight taught Dwight to fly his kite.
They shared their likes, their dreams, their frights.
Dwight had his fights. He wanted kites.
Wight had his kites. He wanted likes.
General Story Background and Other Information:
Target Audience: Ages 4-8 year olds and their parents.
This children's story teaches how cooperation and friendship can lead to mutual benefit while using a light hearted rhyming scheme that makes it fun to read over and over again.
Setting:
The story is set in a medieval town whose only claim to fame is a rickety old arena where young and old, rich and poor, gather to be entertained. The townsfolk are peddlers and farmers doing mostly humdrum work just like most towns of the area and the old arena is the one place they can escape the boredom of their everyday lives.
Style Guide:
The characters are the key to the story and need a distinct personality. Some core characteristic should define each one. Line drawings are preferred (vector art). Simple is better than detailed. Sharp, crisp lines are better than subtle edges.
About the Characters
Dwight the Knight:
- Family crest is all in white
- Easily defeats his challengers in the arena and is often bored/oblivious of his fame
- A reluctant hero who prefers to watch the clouds than please the crowds
Wight the Kite Maker:
- Jealous of Dwight's success and fame
- Wants recognition for his craft
- Spends a lot of time working with delicate instruments, untangling knots, balancing kites
Questions are welcome. In your response, please provide us with a link to an example from your portfolio of the style you intend to use.
