Hello I need assistance on setting up a SSH relay server. I've done some research but can't seem to get it working. What I need: 1. Instructions and assistance on how to set up the SSH server. I have a Linux server already set up just for this purpose (in the cloud w/ a public IP) 2. Instructions and assistance on how to set up each Raspberry PI. Each RPi should automatically connect to the relay server (autossh?) and maintain connections best possible. I will manually configure each RPi network connection, i.e. Wi-Fi. 3. Instructions and assistance on how to use the relay server to access each Raspberry Pi device individually Notes: - There could potentially be hundreds or maybe thousands of RPi's connecting to the relay server - The main purpose is ability to remotely ssh into the RPi's and manage them (the RPi's being behind firewall NAT) - All communications should be encrypted and secured. Certificates are preferred over long passwords, but either are fine as long as it is secure. - Don't mind purchasing SSL certificate if it makes sense to do so - I have full control over the relay server public network ports, but not the RPI's

Hi there. I suggest setting up a ssh key which you c an later use and distribute in each raspberry pi. Login using password is kinda insecure. For your server you can just install and configure openssh. Regarding the autossh, can you explain me a little more about it? Thanks

Hello, I'm an experienced Linux user and I have used the Raspberry Pi for many projects. In my opinion a VPN solution like OpenVPN seems to be a better solution in this case: it is secure, can reconnect automatically, works on a lot of platforms. I have deployed OpenVPN instances in the past (including with Pi clients) and had 10-20 concurrent users online with very little resource usage. It should scale to hundreds of clients without issue; if we needed several thousands concurrent clients we can look into running multiple instances. Best wishes, iticus

I manage quite a few servers, and the important thing is, I also have a few physical servers located behind a NATed network thus cannot be accessed directly. I managed to setup all these server to connect to my public server so they can expose SSH service to myself for management purpose and also web service for serving public. They have been running for more than a year now without problem. I never bid with a low price, because I think it's better to bid high and devote myself into the project to get it done in a professional way, rather than win with a low price but left the project in a half-baked state. Below are my background introduction. I'm a long time Linux user and admin. I currently manages a few servers on different cloud/VPS providers, including one running on AWS, using EC2/RDS/ElasticCache etc., one running on Google Cloud Platform, two on Linode, one on Vultr, and two on Aliyun(a Chinese cloud vendor). I have rich experience with Linux and related open source apps. Good at solution architecting, troubleshooting and performance tuning. I have 5 years of experience supporting Tencent, the largest Internet company in China and also one of top 10 in the world. I am also glad to build a long term partnership, as well as handling one time tasks.
