We have a Ubuntu 18.04 server test system that has successfully runs KVM/QEMU as a host for a DD disk image of a Ubuntu 10.04 operating system. We want to install the currently available VMware workstation for a trial and operate the same DD disk image inside VMware instead. So, the task is (i) install the VMware as host, (ii) boot the same DD image as a guest, and (iii) provide an internal ssh IP address so we can ssh from host to guest. I can give remote access via public IP address for remote command line configuration vial SSH (since this is Ubuntu 18.04 server it has no desktop/GUI interface and everything is command line). For reference, you can see the QEMU and DD disk image running on the same box (but VMware and QEMU won't run simultaneously).
