Hi, yesterday i do a mistake with my server and i need to resolve ASAP. I have any server with a /var partiion with 980 GB, i try to reduce it using lvreduce to 700GB, my idea are use the 100 GB that rest in /usr and /home. When i try to mount again /var, i get some problems and now i can go online my server to my webpages. The host support get me any hand sending me the manual to resolve it [login to view URL] But i can recovery the /var partiion rescue:~# mount /dev/root on / type ext2 (rw,relatime,errors=continue,user_xattr,acl) tmpfs on /run type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,size=1227624k,mode=755) tmpfs on /run/lock type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,size=5120k) proc on /proc type proc (rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime) sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime) tmpfs on /dev type tmpfs (rw,relatime,size=10240k,mode=755) tmpfs on /run/shm type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,size=2455240k) devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,gid=5,mode=620) rescue:~# rescue:~# mount /dev/sdb /mt -bash: rescue:~#: command not found rescue:~# rescue:~# mount /dev/sdb /mnt -bash: rescue:~#: command not found rescue:~# mount /dev/sda /mnt mount: /dev/sda already mounted or /mnt busy rescue:~# mount /dev/sdb /mnt mount: /dev/sdb already mounted or /mnt busy rescue:~# mount /dev/md3 /mnt mount: unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member' Again i call to the call server, and answer me this This is what I am getting when I attempt to mount /var from rescue: rescue:~# mount /dev/vg00/var /mnt/var mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/mapper/vg00-var, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so rescue:~# dmesg .aptitude/ .bashrc .profile .screenrc .vimrc created help/ rescue:~# dmesg | tail [ 7.640729] bio: create slab <bio-2> at 2 [ 8.072688] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready [ 9.664651] e1000e: eth0 NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: None [ 9.679715] e1000e 0000:02:00.0 eth0: 10/100 speed: disabling TSO [ 9.692219] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready [ 177.601797] kjournald starting. Opts: (null) [ 211.352023] EXT4-fs (dm-1): bad geometry: block count 236978176 exceeds size of device (183500800 blocks) Unfortunately, system administration is outside the scope of our support. I highly recommend that you seek the support of a Linux administrator if you are unable to fix the problem yourself. So... i need one of this things 1) The main idea: recover the var partition and after i move with the plesk this webpages to another server. So i can move the domains with this configurations and when i reimage the server, go back the domains with their databases and files. 2) if not possible, recovery the var partition to access via ftp and recover the webfiles and mysql tables, so, i do manually all the work of move to another server, reimage and goback the files. Can you do any of this things today? Remember. The best scenario is 1.

Hi, looks like when you resize partition, you miss one important option and now filesystem must be resized. I can do this asap, if security policy don't allow to give login credentials, I can guide you throught chat. PS: After success, if all be ok, I can completly resize all lvm partitions. PPS: sorry for bad English

If you haven't enlarged another lv with the extents of the old one you can just lvextend the /var partition again until it's large enough. And try mounting then. Read-only mount is recommended !!!. And for next time remember: first shrink filesystem then shrink partition/lv. Not the other way around.
