We have a CRM package that holds contacts and a history of eMails that have been sent and received from them.
Currently we automatically file incoming eMails against the appropriate contact by running a com plugin in Outlook that passes the mail message to a dll when mail is received.
The dll accesses the registry to find the location of the CRM database (MS Access or MSSQL Server), then logs in, searches for a contact with an eMail address that matches the Sender address on the eMail (we use a program called Redemption to resolve the senders address), and if it finds one, makes a copy of the eMail as a .msg file and an entry into the History table containing amongst other things, the path to the copy. If the dll doesnt find a match it passes back out a string with a message which gets written to the message bar at the top of the eMail.
This works fine except it relies on the user being in Outlook.
Most of our users have MS Exchange, so what we require is a program/script/sink that can be installed on the Exchange Server that will execute when mail arrives, create a .msg file (we believe Redemption will do this, as we dont want Outlook on the Exchange server machine) and then run the same dll as described above, flagging the mail with the message if the dll returns an error.
Please note - the dll does all the database updating and copying of the mail - all the new code needs to do is turn the incoming mail into an Outlook mailitem, call the dll and write the status to it if the dll returns an error.
