This is a project to find the best existing open-source Point Of Sale (POS) software in the world and then to improve upon that system, keeping it open source, raising the standard. My friends own a restaurant and bar here in México but have no system at all currently as it’s been cost prohibitive. I´d like to help them and help others at the same time by keeping the improved system open source for anyone in the world to be able to benefit from and be able to continue improving upon as well.
Some of the features other than the basics of any POS system (including being available in Spanish):
1. Can be used with any computer, cell phone or tablet and with any printer.
2. Can be used with multiple input points such as a computer at the cashier, a tablet at the kitchen, a tablet at the bar, a cell phone of a waiter, etc.
3. Can be used by clients for direct ordering also, allowing them to make orders themselves from their restaurant table, from their hotel room, from the beach, etc.
4. The same system can give different access levels to the users such as owners being able to see and control everything, kitchen, restaurant and bar staff for example can all have access only to creating orders, printing invoices, etc and clients can have access only to the ordering function.
Please let us know of your recommendations of the best current open-source POS system that we could build upon.
Also, please let us know if you would be interested in helping us improve upon it with your coding skills, keeping the improved system open source and therefore raising the minimum standard of what’s available in the world and empowering business owners everywhere.
Please share list of all the features you ware looking to have in the system, Yes we can use ready script but we may end up having some bugs also.
