We have integrated an HEVC encoder (Vanguard) in a gstreamer plugin. On a hardware level we are using a Blackmagic decklink card (Intensity pro) which has v4l2 support. However, there appear to be frame drops between the deckling source and HEVC encoder. Secondly, the entire pipeline need some polishing. Ffmpeg accepts Directshow input devices with dshow option, this is also possible in Linux with BMDTools so this library can even use their library as reference.
