- i need to add subcategories to the tables - not sure how best to do this and still achieve a fully automated scripted listing and search function -
what i need is to be able to add - at any time - new category tables and subcategory tables without having to alter the script everytime i do so -
at the moment the script works fine - but also at the moment there are no subcategories to consider
At present the database is searched and anything there - in this database is listed in the lefthand column as one of the main database tables. This becomes a link to the appropriate and dynamically created search form.
- i need to add subcategories above the main tables search form.
one way i thought of was to add extra subcategory tables
like this:- 'books_firsteditions' and 'books_fiction'
this way maybe a script could be written to sample the database and pick out all the top tier tables eg. ("books") as the main tables then to display these only on the home
page listings on the left - then when the 'books' category is clicked it would show the 'books' search page as it does now but with the subcategory links ie 'first editions' and
'fiction' there as well.
This would be displayed above the 'search books' form as a
link - this link would then refresh the page with the
'search first editions' form appearing -
each subcategory would have the same table structure as the parent category so the same script for each could be used for each.
All this has to be done in a way that is non item specific -what i mean by that is - it has to be written as a formula - ie -
For the initial main categories - search the database for
everything that doesnt contain a '_' - list these as the
main tables - once clicked on - the subcategories ie those
tables with the same name as the main category minus the
slash will equal == the 'Subcategory' (the main table name
and slash are stripped out to create the name of the
subcategory -
This subcategory will search the subcategory table with the
same functionality as the other tables'search criteria
already in place -
All achieved in a way that does not tie me down to a rigid and inflexible structure
i am probably making this sound more complicated than it is
anyway if you understand what i need (and please make sure you do before you bid - as i have had several programmers who have said they knew what i wanted only to produce something that resembled little of what i asked)
so if you understand it and can do it - bid away -
also if you have a dozen other projects - good for you - but i need someone who can manage their time accordingly - someone who can start and finish in a reasonable time
pmb me if you need more info
