I have a site [login to view URL] that sells topographic maps for download. My web host is 3SHost. I use ASP. It is not a very complicated site. My problem is that the images do not download smoothly. If I have a series of 4 thumbnails in a row and click on the first, then the second, the first will load fine but the second will hang and I will eventually get Page Cannot Be Displayed. If I click refresh the page will load fine most times. Sometime it seems to hang altogether and I have to close the browser. I know the files exist. I know the hyperlinks are valid. They often work fine but I am very concerned about the times when they don't load well. My client machine is on a corporate network which is very fast. I have had several friends test the site from other places and they find it "rough" at times. Here's the job. I want someone to diagnose this problem and determine what is the cause for the slow loading. Is it the server? Is it my design. I would like a recomedation as to how to fix the problem. If my host provider is indeed the problem I want recomendations for alternative hosting arrangements. I need to know what the critical factors are in performance for this site. I would also like a general review of the site for security. I use Virtual Folders to protect my contents. I use the Stream object to present the files to users. I also have a customer db in MSAccess that is also in a protected folder. I have a login scheme that I would like reviewed from a security point of view. I am trying to implement a PayPal script so IPN experience would be nice but that is secondary.
