I am a novice programmer trying to do a small database for a couple people at work. I had such great help from my last two requests for assistance that I am being a bit lazy now and asking for assistance without first struggling over these issues for hours. The primary problem is described here and the lesser problems detailed in the attachment .zip file. Main Problem: I have a “Header?? table and a “Transaction?? table. The Header table has unique records based on LoanNumber that correspond to multiple records in the Transaction table. There are three types of transactions. Transaction entries are made in a sub-form on a form showing key information from the Header table and filtered transactions showing only a single type of transaction in the sub-form. Everything works fine if there is already one record in the transaction database of the type being entered or modified. (I move from the Header input form to the Transaction input form by pressing a button that opens the transaction input form to selected records based on the loan number.) If there was no existing transaction of the type being entered, then the new form came up blank. I could not enter data and I could not return to the screen and record from whence I came. I implemented a recommended change that seemed to fix the problem. (That solution is incorporated into the enclosed examples.) However, the fix fails on a regular but inconsistent basis. I have compared entries in the Header table of properly working an improperly working records. There are no differences in the nature of the source data to account for the failure on some records and success on the others.
